Presence, Perseverance, and Performance - the New PPP in Teaching

Did you know that the word “performance,” as we understand it today, originates from linguistics? The performative turn in culture began in the 1960s in the Western world, while our region was still behind the Iron Curtain. Teaching English is impossible without addressing the mindset that grows out of a specific cultural background.

In this workshop, we will explore activities that develop the new PPP model - Presence, Perseverance, and Performance - drawing on insights from cultural studies and drama-based teaching practice.

Tania Shelepko is a freelance journalist at PEN Ukraine, translator, and project manager for Norwegian media. She is also a drama and English teacher, playwright, and theatre-maker. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Cultural Studies, focusing on performative techniques in education, communities, and art.
